WHAT: Eugene O’Neill International Festival of Theatre WHEN: Wednesday 10th to Sunday 14th October 2018 WHERE: St Michael’s Theatre, New Ross, Co. Wexford TICKETS: www.euegeneoneillfestival.com The life and work of the award-winning Irish-American playwright, Eugene O’Neill, will be celebrated in New Ross this October 10th-14th, for the first time, as a sister to Danville, California's long-running Eugene O'Neill International Festival of Theatre. The festival will open with a special, Irish debut screening of ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’, starring Eugene’s father, James O’Neill in the lead role. This will be followed by an illustrated talk on the relationship between James and his son Eugene, and a specifically created musical score by WIT music lecturer and performer Phil Collins. Other highlights of the festival will include a staging of the play ‘Hughie’ as directed by Eric Hayes of the Eugene O'Neill Foundation in California. There will also be a rare production of the play cycle ‘Mourning Becomes Electra’ directed by Ben Barnes, and daily performances of The Glencairn Plays staged onboard the famine ship, ‘Dunbrody’. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore the work of this much celebrated legend of theatre whose work represents some of the best writing from the Irish diaspora. Tickets to the festival weekend are available at €100. Tickets for individual events will issue on September 1st (subject to availability), for further details see www.eugeneoneillfestival.com.
